Dear pleasefindthis,

I was at Barnes & Noble today looking through a Post Secret book, when a tiny slip of paper flew out that read: www.pleasefindthis.blogspot.com..... Nothing interesting ever happens to me, so I was psyched to go home and find out about the website. I really liked the ideas, poetry, and photos on the site and am very curious. I would like to know more, so if you could reply that would make my day!! :)
Thanks,
ifoundit

Suicide Is Not Painless

I am a human being, not a guru or a Buddha. I write. Some people believe I write really well.

I believe words have incredible power because, well, our thoughts are words. We think in words and we use words to interact with the universe around us.

Even with that in mind, just because I'm good with words doesn't mean I have all the answers or that I'm qualified to counsel you, should you need it.

Joking about committing suicide or suggesting it on my blog is not funny. In fact, it's the opposite of funny.

It's fucking selfish.

I believe in life. I believe in living life to the fullest possible extent. I don't know if there's an afterlife or not but it'd be nice if there was. In case there isn't though, I will do my damnedest to live my life in a way that I believe it should be lived. I believe life is a miracle. I believe life is a fractal, a microcosm of the universe. I believe we were put here to love one another.

To joke or play around with the idea of taking all that away is not fair because even if I don't believe you, I will still treat it seriously and will worry about it, late into the night.

Once, in highschool, my girlfriend at the time, whom I'd just broken up with for cheating on me, phoned me at 2am, to tell me she had a broken beer bottle to her wrists and wanted to say goodbye.

So I calmed her down and got back together with her over the phone, even though I didn't want to. I knew, in all probability, she was lying, as she'd done before (never about suicide though) but I could never take that risk with someone else's life. If even the remotest possibility exists that you're serious, the world has to take it seriously.

The first post in this new blog, what I'm hoping will effectively become the news blog for I Wrote This For You, has links to American and international helplines in case you are in that position.

If you just want to talk, I don't mind doing that and I try to respond to every single person that writes to me.

But don't abuse that trust or play with it.

I don't deserve it.

Something For Me And Something For You

As you know, I started an I Wrote This For You store the other day on cafepress, which is currently closed for repairs. As you will also notice, I’m not a designer, artist or an illustrator. I’m a writer.

But, what I myself know is that I have some incredibly talented people who read the blog. I’d like those incredibly talented people to step forward and interpret what I’ve written, visually.

Some people have already done this.

By Cassandra Warren.

By Iniga Patricia Roces Falco.

If you send me your creations, to sell in the store, I will promote you as an artist here on this blog, which is now the only link out of I Wrote This For You, credit you next to the product in the store itself and in the facebook group.

So, if you’re interested, download the cafepress templates here, find a quote that inspires you, make it, apply it to one of the templates and send it to me at pleasefindthis@gmail.com with a link to your own devianart/livejournal/blogger/what ever site you’d like me to promote.

Specifics:

You’re free to apply your design to whatever you want but shirts seem to sell the most. Don’t let that stop you from making a clock, poster or a coffee mug if that’s what interests you.

Only send me work that’s already applied to a cafepress template and label it clearly in the email.

I’m not strict about what –has- to appear in the work. In other words, it doesn’t have to have the words “I Wrote This For You” or “pleasefindthis” on it, the title of the quote or even the entire quote.

You can’t use any of the photography from the site.

Unfortunately, I can’t pay you for your designs as a) I’m offering this mainly to young up-and-coming artists who need help getting noticed and b) sending money out (or getting it in for that matter) of South Africa, where I live, is a complete and utter nightmare.

Thank you for your time, love and understanding.

Love,

Me

In Order Of Priority

Several years ago, I started a literary project called I Wrote This For You, based around the idea of telling very short stories about a character called "you".

At some point, I ran out of stories and started writing about myself, as a way of giving myself advice as I went through life.

At some point, people discovered the blog and started sending individual entries to people they needed to say something to but couldn't find the words.

It spread from there.

If you need to talk to someone, click here if you live in America or here if you live anywhere else.

You're more than welcome to talk to me but be aware that I'm not qualified in any way to help you. I do, however, always promise to listen.

If you'd like to know more about I Wrote This For You, the facebook page has some handy information that I'm not going to go into here.

You can also follow me on twitter.
